Qantas has increased comfort for Business Class passengers on its worldwide routes in the last few months with the introduction of a Sleep Service, following the success of its trial on the Sydney-Los Angeles flights. Sleep Service is now available to passengers traveling between Melbourne or Brisbane and LAX as well as selected flights to and from Dallas, New York, London, Frankfurt and Hong Kong, among others.
With its tag-line 40 winks at 40,000 feet, the aim of the service it to give Business fliers a more relaxing in-flight experience. Central to this is the provision of mattresses which cover the lie-flat Sky Beds and mask any contours or dips in the surface, thus providing increased comfort.
On top of that, passengers may request a fully quilted duvet as well as being able to use Qantas’ Select on Q – Eat service to choose from a wider menu and schedule their meals before they get on-board. Finally, the airline is also carrying a specially-blended night-time tea designed to help their customers nod off.
Speaking about the changes, the airline’s Chief Executive Simon Hickey is quoted in the press release as saying, “Our premium customers travelling in Business have told us they want greater choice and the ability to maximise their sleep. That’s why we’ve made these changes…An initial trial of the Select on Q – Eat meal service on our Los Angeles route was very well received by customers, who liked the broader menu and the ability to choose in advance at what stage in the flight they would like to eat.”
Select On Q allows users to decide whether they wish to skip supper and go straight to sleep upon boarding.
Whether or not these changes are in response to the increased competition and luxurious amenities on Business Class flights in the long-haul market to Australia over recent months remains to be seen, but regulars who like to bed down will certainly feel the difference in comfort.
Qantas has also upgraded the Business Amenity Kits with Malin+Goetz skin care products, an eye mask, ear plugs, socks and an environmentally friendly biodegradable toothbrush with toothpaste. And the airline also announced through its partnership with Emirates that Business and First class passengers will be offered a door-to-door chauffeur service from April.
