Select flights to hand out complimentary refreshments
Anyone who flew domestically in economy class on Virgin Australia’s predecessor, Virgin Blue, can remember having to stop at an airport cafe to purchase food for the flight. Virgin Australia, however, seems to be trying to distance itself from its origins as a discount airline and match or better its chief competitor, Qantas, for full service and benefits.
One of the latest enhancements for economy class is the addition of complimentary meals and drinks on flights lasting over two hours and forty-five minutes. Meals will be added to these flights over the remainder of this year with complimentary meal service already available for flights from Australia to Phuket, Thailand and to Denpasar, Bali.
Transcontinental Australian flights – those from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to and from Perth – also include a complimentary meal and beverage, as do Trans-Tasman – those from Australia to New Zealand – flights booked in the Flexi category.
For all shorter flights, Virgin Australia provides complimentary water, tea or coffee – and the option of purchasing assorted snacks and beverages.
