Airline safety and product rating site AirlineRatings.com has named Air New Zealand as its Airline of the Year. The airline also won the Best Premium Economy class recognition.
Air New Zealand was recognized for excellence in in-flight service innovations, financial performance, operational safety and motivation of its staff.
Notable Air New Zealand long-haul innovations include Skycouch seating in economy class and Spaceseat seating in premium economy.
Skycouch involves the conversion of three Economy seats in a row into a 29″ x 5’1″ couch. A footrest comes out from under each of the three seats and it can be pulled up to create a flat, flexible space suitable for couples or those flying with a young child.
Spaceseat ensures that the passenger seating in front of you cannot recline into your personal space as it reclines the seat into a shell that slides forward like a reclining lounge chair.
Other Air New Zealand features include seat-back audio/video on-demand entertainment units, in-seat power outlets in most premium economy seats and all business seats of its long-haul aircraft, 32-34 inch seat pitch in long-haul economy, 38-41 inch seat pitch in long-haul premium economy and full-flat bed convertible seats in long-haul business class.
“Quite simply Air New Zealand is an airline of first choice. And given the airline’s location and the country’s size, its performance is even more remarkable,” said AirlineRatings.com editor, Geoffrey Thomas.
Air New Zealand was also recently rated as the second safest airline in the world after Qantas by AirlineRatings.com.
Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Qantas were the other four carriers in the top five airlines ranking by AirlineRatings.com.
